Iñaki Azkuna, the fundamental proponent of the Zorrotzaurre urban regeneration project has died

Yesterday afternoon, Iñaki Azkuna, Mayor of Bilbao and, among other posts, the Chairman of the Zorrotzaurre Management Commission, died.

Azkuna was, from the first day, a fundamental protagonist in the urban regeneration project of Zorrotzaurre. He promoted and brought together the political, economic and social forces necessary to achieve the transformation of this quarter into a new space for the economic and social development of Bilbao.

Barely two months ago, in one of his last interviews, he again underlined the strategic importance of the opening up of the Deusto canal for the capital city of Bizkaia.
